Are you restless like me?

Jenna's former blog. It will still be here, but she will not be here.

All you readers at home.

Oh shit? Garrett and I will be the only advanced kids in shop, that means we won't get like any work done for the first month. It also means we get a ton of extra points.

And whoever does the scheduling for AP classes obviously doesn't think. Actually, I don't think anyone thinks in that office. About 8 kids in my class, including me, have AP English and U.S. history at the same time. So I have to have to make four changes to my schedule, dropping things, picking things up, moving things around. Crazy.

I promise I'll write a real entry soon. Eventually.

8/30/2005

1/2

First day of school.
Two good things:
1) I'm page 2 editor for Haypress, there won't be any mistakes on at least one page.
2) I'm going to be in woodshop fourth block starting soon.

8/28/2005

Hercules, the Biblical character

I still haven't finished my notes for English. I'm putting myself to bed at midnight though, I need sleep. Beach and homework tomorrow. And various crazy last minute back-to-school preparations.

If I were Mickey Rourke I wouldn't be tired.

8/26/2005

You don't need another mistake.

Breaking News Bulletin:
This just in, I do not like Neal Gabler, nor do I like his book Life The Movie: How Entertainment Conquered Reality, nor do I like having to analyze it and take notes.

Are we having fun?

Today a bug flew into my eye.

8/25/2005

Damn.

After waiting in line for two and a half hours to get it fixed, my schedule is as follows:
1st Term:
Block 1-AP English 11 with U.S. History every other day
Block 2-Keyboarding, yuck. It was the only thing left after they forgot to give me a 2nd block.
Block 3-Journalism
Block 4-None yet, maybe Adv. Woodshop

2nd Term:
Block 1-English and History again
Block 2-AP Statistics
Block 3-Journalism
Block 4-Nothing, maybe I'll add something later

Yep, no German 3. I'm very pissed. There's only one German 3 class this year, and it happens to be third block, same as journalism, which I can't drop.

And I look really stupid in my picture.

8/24/2005

Never About.

I was so caught up being nervous about my driving lesson today that I didn't realize that tomorrow is orientation/schedule pick up. The lesson went well, though. She only had to press on her break once or twice. And that's only because she MADE me go out onto East 14th when I said I wasn't ready for a busy street. I wasn't going to hit anyone, anyway, she was just overreacting.

My hair came out way-too-dark-blue, so I'm going to shampoo it a million times tomorrow morning, and maybe add some dish soap. I heard baking soda works, too. I want it turquoise. I'm an idiot for dying it the day before picture day. I've done it three times in a row now, and each time it was super dark. Freshman year it was forest green, which came out nearly black. Last year it was a burgundy color, which paired with my pale face, black top, and faux-Celtic necklace resulted in me looking very Goth. Finally, I might have the color I want in my picture if I can get it to fade right.

You know that school in Boston I mentioned earlier this summer? I looked it up in The Princeton Review's list of colleges. Here's how Emerson ranked our of 361 colleges:
-Students Dissatisfied With Financial Aid--#6 (Great, because I sure won't need any more money...)
-Their Students (Almost) Never Study--#6 (Can't decide whether that's good or bad)
-Gay Community Accepted--#9 (It is a theater arts school, afterall.)
-Students Ignore God on a Regular Basis--#10 (Again, good, bad, irrelevant? Irrelevant.)
-Best College Radio Station--#1 (Good, very good.)
-Best College Theater--#3 (See List 3.)
-Intercollegiate Sports Unpopular or Nonexistent--#10 (Fine with me.)
-Nobody Plays Intramural Sports--#2 (Fine with me.)
-Reefer Madness--#20 (Eh, as long as that doesn't hold true with my roommate.)
-Birkenstock-Wearing, Tree-Hugging, Clove-Smoking Vegetarians--#20 (I don't really fit that category, but I don't mind those who do.)
-Dodge Ball Targets--#4 (That's more like me.)
-Great College Towns--#15 (Boston had other colleges further up that list, though.)

Berkeley was only on one list, ranked #20 on the Best Library list. My driving instructor went to Berkeley. And now she's a driving instructor.

Victims of circumstance.

Today is the last Tuesday that I won't have school until Winter break. (It really is, I checked the calendar.)

I got Google Talk. Add me, the gmail address is at the top of the right column.

8/22/2005

Failed permanently

I hate how none of the technology at my school ever works. So much for emailing my English teacher to make sure I chose a "prose style" book.
Oh well, it's non-fiction and by an author from the list. And it's funny.
(If You Can't Say Anything Nice by Calvin Trillin)

I've discovered that I make the best mashed potatoes ever.
I also discovered that I like walking around and doing things alone sometimes. It makes me feel all grown up and stuff.
Now I'm going to sleep read.

A Meme. Because I'm lame.

Monday Meme 13 : 2005-08-15 : Reading Rainbow

1. Do you subscribe to any magazines? Which? Are there any you'd like to subscribe to but haven't?
No. I'd like to subscribe to some craft magazines, but I haven't found one I like enough yet.

2. How many books do you read per month? How many are for work?
Not many, thanks to this damn laptop.

3. What is your favorite genre of book (fiction, self-help, etc...)?
I guess life-like fiction, but I've been known to pick up the occassional fantasy, sci-fi, or non-fiction book.

4. Where do you get your reading materials? Online? Bookstore? Library?
Library, friends, school, bookstore on B street.

5. List 5 books you recommend people read:

1) Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams (You must.)

2) Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger (Old, but still relative.)

3) Perks of Being a Wallflower - Stephen Chbosky (Beware, I hated the ending.)

4) Hard Love - Ellen Wittlinger (Made me cry.)

5) Stargirl - Jerry Spinelli (Great writing.)

Eh, that seems like a pretty lame list. Oh well, they're all good books.

8/20/2005

Let me through that door.

Sometimes I feel like smashing my head into the wall might not be such a bad thing.
That might shut it up for awhile.

8/18/2005

Even if I knew, you'd still walk out.

I hate talking about people.
I hate remembering things.

Sometimes I wish I could go somewhere where no one knows me or anyone I know. I hate all this "it's such a small world" and "funny meeting you here" crap.
But then I realize I'd miss everyone so much I probably wouldn't enjoy it very much.

Not the lucky one.

Just thought I'd let you all know that I had the best time last night. It was the most fun I've had in a long time. We may have been the only ones dancing, and we may have looked like idiots, but we had fun doing it.
Audrye Sessions was really awesome. Plus, they had a violinist. They were selling refurbished vintage purses that were stencilled and had neat things sewn to them. I convinced Carolyn to buy the one that said "My heart belongs to Audrye Sessions." There's a girl bassist, by the way, who I assume is the one who decorated the purses.
I had seen Street To Nowhere once before, and they were great then and even better this time. At one point the singer came out with an acoustic and brought out a guy with a cello. The cellist was obviously the coolest guy there.
I am so glad I decided to look into this show when I heard about it, because Blackpool Lights is now one of my favorite bands. It was only their 9th show, but they'd all been in bands before. They played every song they know.
I came home with an Audrye Sessions cd, a copy of Blackpool Lights' tour-exclusive EP along with a shirt and set list. I got the cd sleeve signed by two of the band members. And I got a hug from Dave of Street To Nowhere.

Now I'm going to go shower before the Street Fair.

8/17/2005

Good luck with her.

I finally get to go to a concert. Carolyn and I will be going to an emo show tonight. But it's the type of emo you can kinda dance to, so it's good.

My room is nearly half done. It smells like paint.

8/16/2005

A birthday and a baby.

Dearest Tasha,

What is your favorite type of cake?

Your friend,
Jenna

P.S.-I tried to find that picture of Hitler doing a happy jig for you, but this little kid will have to do.

My toes are cold.

I was misinformed, my driving lesson is on the 24th. More time to be nervous about it, yay.

I can't decide what to be for Halloween. I've narrowed it down to either a ninja, a jedi, or a pirate. They all have they're good points; a ninja is all stealthy, a jedi has a neat robe/cloak/hood thing, and a pirate gets to talk cool. It's a difficult choice.
It's never too early to think about Halloween.

And I also can't decide what to do for my 17th birthday party. Yes, it's three months away, but I want something super cool. I always hated having my birthday in November because of the weather. As much as I love the rain, streamers stain things when they're wet and soggy.

8/14/2005

Inspired by real life events.

Today I completed one of my life goals.

I got a burgundy Members Only jacket from Thrift Town. $2.99
Yes. That was one of my life goals.
A real Members Only jacket.
The store had four of them. Then at Safeway I saw two old guys each wearing one. I think it's some sort of sign. Of what, I don't know yet, but I'll keep you posted.

My first driving lesson is on Thursday. I don't want to drive in the street yet. I got nervous when someone was just walking through the parking lot I was practicing in.

Damn, I had a whole list of things to write about, but I put it off and now they're gone.

8/12/2005

turn the dial

Today's episode of Degrassi was the best ever.
Kevin Smith was the guest star.

Yeah, that was the highlight of my day.

I'm going to go let my ipod crash my computer now.

8/11/2005

Super G

I want to complain about shit, but I won't.

If anyone's up for an art-rock show in Berkeley tomorrow (Friday) night, let me know.
[The Catholic Comb, $6, at The Starry Plough, 9:00]

Also, next Wednesday, Blackpool Lights is playing at Slim's. Emo. Featuring an ex-member of The Get Up Kids. Here's their Myspace. *shudder*

There's a meteor shower late Friday night/early Saturday morning. The Perseids. Look northeast.

A List.

Today was cool because:
-I got to wear my blazer, complete with antique pins on the lapel.
-I bought school supplies. And a whistle.
-Carolyn and I drank coffee and played rummy on the walkway outside the pottery place.
-I won the first two, of five, games.

8/10/2005

#330000

I killed a mosquito with air freshener.

New header and color scheme. Can you tell I'm ready for fall?

Shows I try to watch:
-Firefly
-Mythbusters
-Good Eats
-Family Guy
-Gilmore Girls
-Degrassi
-Crafters Coast-to-Coast

I believe I've seen every single episode of Babylon 5 ever made. My brother and I used to watch it every day after school.

The only movies I've seen in theaters this summer are Batman Begins, War of the Worlds, and Star Wars Episode III.

I feel pretty geeky today.

8/07/2005

Kansas City

Wish I could remember why it mattered to me. It doesn't matter to me. It doesn'’t matter to me anymore. Now that you're feeling fine, I'’ll admit that - though I know it'’s coming down, and see it shattering me - it doesn'’t matter to me, and I'm not sadder for seeing it come. I'm not going to run.

Has anyone heard of Okkervil River? I just happened across a link to their site tonight and I'm in love. I can't think of a way to describe them, really.

Well, here's an interesting comparison:
"A great storyteller with rhyme schemes that would impress Eminem, frontman Will Sheff comes on like Conor Oberst with a tighter grip on the reins."
-Will Hermes (of Entertainment Weekly)
I think I'll just leave it at that.
Site here.
MP3's here. I highly recommend "For Real" and "It Ends With A Fall."
Videos here. Again, "It Ends With A Fall."

8/06/2005

Hermit.

Am I really the only one without something to do tonight? I'm the only one online. Damn.

I'm going to go watch the home shopping network or HGTV or something.

8/05/2005

There's one thing I could do nothing about.

I feel all fragile.

Fuck.

And today was a good day, too.

One of the best shirts ever. (I didn't take this photo, I got a link to it.)

There's gaurds at the on-ramp

I couldn't sleep again, so I made Melissa a poster for us to sign tomorrow at her going-away-picnic-thing. It has sequins on it.

Today I got a bunch of neat shit for about $11~12.
My haul included:
+1953 book of familiar quotations
+old Roget's thesaurus
+3 antique-kinda pins: red cross, 100% good teeth, and "Let's get associated"
+158 Things To Make book
+cheapy huge earrings
+three-strand fake pearl necklace (little Asian store!)
+7up/Giants scarf
+large, heart shaped "I ♥ Mom" pin

I'm starting to get drowsy. If I don't lay down now I might miss my chance and be up for a couple more hours. That's how it happens with me.

I have super glue on my fingertips.

8/02/2005

Hooks

I can't sleep. So I made earrings.

ouch

.........caffeine headache.

There's a moth in my room. Wait, there are two.
