Are you restless like me?

groggy.
I'm trying to stay up until I'm definitely too tired to stay awake any longer.
Yes, it has returned.
It being my temporary, summer-induced insomnia. Complete with the weird feeling in my elbow and way too many thoughts running through my head. I hate lying in bed not being able to fall asleep. It feels so pointless. But I'm too tired to do anything productive, plus everyone else will be asleep. I probably won't sleep until around 2. Yeah, yeah, that's early for some of you (or prime phone-talking time, Lauren), but for me it's late. I need lots of sleep.
Heat makes me groggy. Groggy isn't used enough in day-to-day conversation, neither is trippy. People even look at me funny when I say something is neat, like I'm being sarcastic.
Do enough people know what narcissist means in order for it to be an effectual insult on a t-shirt?

Honorary Aggie.
Tomorrow morning I'm off to Davis with my mom. My brother's roommate moved out and my mom is going to help him clean the place up for potential newcomers. I'm going along for the ride. Plus, my sister's going to Great America and I'd rather not be home alone, all day, in the heat.
I'm hoping my mom will decide to kick us out so she can be more productive. That way I can force my brother to show me around town. Maybe buy me food. I hear there's a good burrito place near his apartment. There's gotta be one some place, what's a college town without burritos? And I'm sure there'll be a coffee shop to take me to.
I've heard stories about his Russian friend, Andrei, who dances. He's even taken Jordan to some jazz party in Sacramento. My mom was talking to my brother earlier and somehow the topic came up that Andrei knows how to swing dance. She was kidding around and said Jordan should introduce me to Andrei because I want to learn to swing. Jordan got all serious and said neither of his sisters will ever meet Andrei. Apparently he has a 16-year-old girlfriend and it's not uncommon in Russia for 22-year-olds to have girlfriends even younger.
Well, I'm gonna go to bed now. I'm 99% sure you'll get at least one audiopost update from the road. Maybe even an impromptu interview with Jordan, how exciting. Bet you all can't wait.
Oh, and feel free to leave one-to-two word descriptions of the general population of Myspace, I have a project in the works.

Oops.
I forgot to mention, I saw the King of the Nortes today, outside the 99 cent store. He was wearing red, of course.

Swoon baby, starry nights.
The other day I got my beloved Starbucks card. And last night I went to the movies with Carolyn, Chabot to see Batman. We met up at Starbucks and I was all excited because I was going to be super cool and buy coffee with my Starbucks card. So I go up there and order and I pull out three dollars to pay for it. Right as he handed me my change (ten cents) I looked at my wallet and saw the card. Right in front of me, waiting. Dammit. But he gave me a grande when I paid for a tall, so I guess it turned out alright. Next time, I'll use it next time.
Plums.
I'm going to go pick plums in my backyard.
And I'm going to leave my window open.
And my music on, loud.
So I can listen to Interpol while I pick plums.
Update:
I went out there and realized that none of the plums within reach were ripe. I looked down and saw all the branches that they had cut down had ripe plums on them which had been stepped on by the same guys who cut them down. They even got paint on one of the unripe ones. How? I don't know. But it's nice and shady and cool under the tree back there. If we could cut down some of the berry bushes then I should set up a chair and table out there or something. I could run the laptop cord through the window, maybe. My music sounds good out there.
I think I'll go eat some of the fruit we bought at Safeway. Far inferior to our plums.

Haar Schnitt.
Manda and I got our hair cut.
Hers is short. And super cute. She loves it.
Mine is shorter than last time. At the moment it's okay, but it'll probably be better once I get used to it and all.
Now Manda's making me help her with her hair.
Later.

Everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt.
There you go. Enjoy.
I might sound funny because I have a cold. :(
This thing is fun, bet you guys with livejournals wish you could make audioposts. Hah!
Blogger is better.
Woohoo!
[Deleted audiopost.]
Yes! It worked. But I had read a children's book in it, "A Porcupine Named Fluffy" by Helen Lester, and then I looked at the copyright. It says no reproduction of any form, and I don't want to end up being sued like 3 years from now for having it in my archives.
So, I think I'll go record another one. This time it will be of my own design.
So much for that.
I tried to make an audiopost today. Like, 5 minutes ago. I'm waiting for it to show up on here. I hope I didn't do anything wrong. :(
I sound like a moron in it. Next time I'll prepare something interesting and/or funny to say to you all. Write a script or at least have cue cards...
Edit:(9:06 p.m.)
Okay, I recorded another audiopost. Maybe this one will show up...
Manda's blasting Yellowcard, again.
In an effort to not get sucked into the LJ universe, I decided to post about interesting things I found.
This is a list of the most popular interests listed on LiveJournal.
I don't find it surprising that the first band on the list is Taking Back Sunday. Really says something about the general population of LiveJournal. Next up is Nirvana, then Radiohead. Then there's suddenly a cluster of bands: The Used, Brand New, Green Day, The Beatles, Dashboard Confessional, and The Cure, all of them almost one after the next. From there the bands start to spread out more.
Another thing that I noticed, there's only a difference of 922 people between the listings of "emo" and Bright Eyes, emo having more. That may sound like a lot, but the total number of people with emo as an interest is almost 100 times that amount, 91035. They're practically synonymous.
Oh, and 229909 people list anime as an interest. That's more than sex. They like anime more than sex. And more than chocolate. More than boys. More than food. Crazy kids.
Of course, music is number one, and love, photography, and computers are right up there near it.

It's been a long time coming.
You know what I realized, guys?
I forgot party hats.
Next year there will be party hats, I promise.
Lauren won the contest. She guessed 7 changes. Technically speaking, there were a lot more, but if you don't count individual colors and such, it was 7.
Today I got new "work out clothes" because my mom signed me up at the gym she and my sister go to. Lady of America or something, with a bunch of old women I've heard.
Then I visited Josh's new house, which is around the corner so he's still kind of my neighbor. In exchange for books, I was supposed to keep him company while he cleaned, but I think I was a distraction as not much got done. I now have books to read. On the way back I stopped off and borrowed Susan's, or Jenny's, copy of the Driver's Handbook. I read the whole thing and took all the practice tests I could find. I only missed 3 out of 50 questions. My mom says tomorrow some phone calls will be made and I should finally be taking my permit test soon. God, it only took me what? Over a year. Such a slacker.
I took an inventory of my coins and decided that, even though I've rolled them as I went along, I'm cashing them in using Coinstar. I have approximately $47 in coins. If I go to the Albertson's in Castro Valley I can cash in some, I'd say $17, into a Starbucks card with no counting fee. That's right, it all goes directly to the card, so I always have money for coffee. Then I'd cash in the remaining $30 for bills, and I'd only lose about $2 something. Sounds like a plan to me.
I love the internet.
Time to start my reading, good night.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BLOGGIE!!!
OMG.
365 days ago, I posted the first picture on this blog. 365.
Holy shit.
I think I should thank this here blog for all it's done in this year we've been together.
Dear Bloggie,
It's been a year. Wow. We really have been through a lot, and we've both grown, too.
You started off as just pictures with a few captions. Soon I added a comment system. Then put header pictures at the top. The I started actually writing entries. Later we added that beautiful side bar with all the links and neat stuff. Now look at you, all fancy and shit. I love it.
And through all of this you never gave me any trouble. You just sat there and listened. Even when I refused to use proper capitalization, or apostrophes. No complaints, no judgment, no unwanted advice, just someone to talk to.
Sigh.
It's been a long year, but a pretty damn good one, Bloggie.
My regards,
Jenna
The first birthday of my blog called for celebration. I spruced the page up, but it will be back to normal tomorrow. So make the most of it.
I have a little contest thingy for you, the first person to correctly guess the number of things that are different on the page gets a prize. I'm not sure what yet, but something good.
I guess if no one gets it right, I'll give the prize to whoever was closest. There's a limit of 3 guesses per person.
I encourage you all to do something special in honor of this joyous occasion. Like, maybe, eat a cookie, or maybe have a glass of chocolate milk. Something nice. You all deserve it, for putting up with this thing for so long. Even those who haven't been around since the beginning, I love you all! Treat yourselves to something good in honor of my blog's birthday.
Seriously, this blog has been a big help to me. Writing and posting things in here, even if it's just silly stuff like a flashing picture montage of myself, has improved my writing skills, my confidence (or is that my ego?), my thought process, and just gave me something to do. When I get bored I get sad, and this thing stifled my boredom many times and prevented many tears from being shed.
Here's to another year, eh?
I have big plans for this thing. Well, kind of big. It depends. But I hope you'll all stick around to see.
One thing I can see coming in the very near future is my blog's first audio post. Possibly within the week.
Something that I'd love to do eventually is get my own domain and website. I'd include this blog, just ftp'ed to the server and all. Ad-free and fully integrated, you in? I'm working out the financial parts, slowly. Then the technical aspects, but it's highly possible. Maybe around the holidays, a website sounds like a good birthday or Christmas present from the parents. No work on their part, always a plus.
I've actually got a few improvements up my sleeve that should be in effect when the festivities are over.
I have one last thing to ask of you, my dear readers, please leave a comment with birthday greetings for the bloggie! And suggestions for expansion and improvements, along with anything else you'd like to say, are more than welcome. Even if you just say hi, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks guys. Without you, this would just be a diary, but without the secrets diaries usually have because I wouldn't want to risk it. This as much a celebration of the blog as it is of you all.
:)

Gah.
This is what happens when I'm alone in my room with a camera and nothing better to do.
It's now my LJ icon, with a mini version as my AIM icon.
Enjoy.
Masking tape on my mosquito bite.
I thought I'd let you all know, I got a new screen name. I'm still trying to decide if I'll use this one from now on or not. For now I'll be on both, since I finally got AIM+. My new screen name is:
thread and glueTechnically it doesn't need the spaces, but I like it with spaces.
I was tired of having numbers in my screen name.
Send me a message.
Oh, and if you happen to be up late tonight, say midnight, I'll be putting up a surprise and you can be the first to see it.
It's really special, and it will only be up for one day.
Lauren, don't tell anyone.

Want to do whatever, laugh until September
In an effort to stay busy and productive this summer, I've decided to keep a running list of things I've done. I'm hoping this will encourage me to do something worth writing about each day. If I'm going to make the effort to write it out by hand, I'm keeping track in my diary-thing, then it better be something good.
It's too easy to just jabber in this blog, so I'm going to actually write these things down.
I already accomplished some things today, I feel productive.
My mom has given me permission to paint stuff on one wall of my room. Any suggestions? If I had spray paint I'd stencil something, but all we have is really old bright pink stuff that doesn't have a proper nozzle.
And does anyone want a purse? I found a bunch of neat ideas for purses, but I don't use purses. So I need to have someone to give them to once I make them.
C'mon people, I need reasons to make things.
Yes, I'm aware.
My sister says I think I'm better than everyone because I wouldn't buy a car from someone who can't spell.

Accomplished.
Summer, day one.
I sewed a wallet for someone.
And I've come to appreciate the iron and spray starch. Nifty little things.

I thought I'd clarify something about the post below.
1)At this point, I'm not interested in being more than friends with this boy. There's no "chemistry." He's nice, that's about all I know so far.
2) I don't want him to think that I am interested in being more than just friends. I don't know if I like him and I'd rather not be stuck on a date or something when I realize I don't, but he thinks I do. Awkward is not fun.
Then there's the whole question as to what the hell I'd say if I did call. I'm not one to call and just say "Hi, what's up?"
I need a reason.
If only he'd asked for my number rather than give me his. Then it would be his problem.
Why couldn't a few of those old-fashioned ideas stick around? Like the guy makes the plans and calls the girl. Sure, I wouldn't want to be the stereotypical stay-at-home mom, but the domestic skills would be nice. I suck at cleaning.
So far my conclusion is this: I'll call him when something comes up that would make a good, easy phone conversation. Hopefully that will happen before he thinks I hate him or something.
6/16/2005
Don't read it yet.
What do you do when someone puts their phone number in your yearbook and tells you to call during summer?
And what if it's a guy?
What if it's a guy you don't know all that well but would like to be friends with?
What if it's a guy who seems to be interested in you?
If you do call, does it mean you're interested in him?
What if you're just not a phone chit-chatty person?
Is it rude if you don't call?
Should you just wait until you have something specific you want to tell them/talk about? I'd say yes.
Eh, it's not even the first day of summer yet, I shouldn't worry about it. I've got a few weeks before I'll start to feel bad.
Boys are confusing.
And silly.
6/15/2005
How many special people change?
My head hurts.
I think I'll go to sleep.
6/14/2005
Laugh hard, it's a long way to the bank.
Does anyone have any suggestions for my own, voluntary, summer reading list?
Either fiction or non-fiction, I just need books.
*does a little happy dance for summer*
!!!
Fist fights won't save us now.

All the clocks say 11:36
I have a weird range of social behaviors, depending on who I'm with.
When I'm with my "chemistry buddies," who include Sarah T., Justin, Angela, and others, I tend to be the one who carries the conversation. When they're sitting down, I'm standing up in front of them. I'm very talkative, I tell stories (some are exaggerated) and make a lot of silly jokes. We're laughing most of the time. I'm not the only one talking though, I think I'm just the loudest. This also goes for when I'm with only, or mostly, strangers. Oddly enough, I start talking. For example, when I went to this murder-mystery thing earlier this year I only knew one person, Carolyn. She introduced me to a few people, but she was busy most of the time. I talked to a bunch of people, I was animated and witty and everything. People thought I was one of the actors.
Then, when I'm with the people I'm the most comfortable with, Lani, Lauren, Tasha, April, Janelle, Stephanie, etc., I'm more reserved. And when I do try to tell a story or make a joke, it usually falls flat. At least, that's how I see it.
Now, I'm not exactly sure if this is purely from being around different types of people or if the timing has anything to do with it. I'm with Sarah and them in the mornings, right after my cup of coffee, I'm still fresh. By the time history and lunch roll around and I hang out with Tasha and everyone, I'm tired and bored already.
Then there's the old friends, Christina, Susan, Jenny, Crystal. Around them I'm a mixture of the two. But if there's someone else around who I don't know very well I'm nearly silent. When it's just us I get pretty sarcastic. I'm the odd one in that group, the "outcast," if you will, and I tend to play the part.
Feel free to let me know if you see things differently. I don't mind if it's not something I'd particularly like to hear. I'd rather someone tell me when I make an ass of myself then worry about them thinking about it later, or even worse, talking about it with someone else.
I'd rather people forgot I existed when I wasn't around than talk about me, even if it's complimentary.
6/11/2005
Gang related fan.
This is all I want to remember
Gah, my speakers are getting worse. They sound really funky. I might as well just use the built-in laptop speakers. If you've ever heard those then you know that my regular speakers must be pretty bad.
I have enough to buy a new set, but that's my summer savings. Seeing as my only income is lunch money, and there's no school during summer, I'm essentially broke unless I save. I have $100 right now, and nice speakers would be between 50 and 70, and I don't want to spend that much.
Does anyone have speakers that work that they'd be willing to sell me?
I really don't want to be in my room right now. It's pretty stuffy in here, even though the window's open. But Manda is getting ready for "Gay Prom" and has left her friend Grace in my living room. I don't feel like entertaining at the moment. I spent nearly all of last night at the Sun Gallery with her, I can only handle so much of one person. After awhile I'll get sick of almost anyone. It's one of those stupid introverted tendencies my mom cursed me with.
I think I'll take my dad's digital camera to Sandra's sweet 16 party tonight, catch people in their finery and hopefully dancing funny. I'm wearing jeans, is that rude? They're my better jeans though, no holes or stencils.
I can see that there's people in the backyard of the house behind mine, we share a fence. I can see people moving between the slats. I wonder if they can hear my music. I know they can't see me though, the fence is too tall and it's darker in my room than outside it.
I have to go make some phone calls, see who's riding with me later.

Das Curvebreaker
I saw my buddy Hannah today!
There's been activity at the house across from mine, and there's a car in the driveway. I think I have new neighbors. And next door someone is moving in at this very moment. Caught a glimpse as we pulled into the driveway, seemed to be a guy around my age. My sister was really excited until she realized she was wearing gym shorts and her hair was in a bunch of braids.
In shop today three of the guys put together a list of the people they needed to take care of. Everyone was on it, even the teacher. "Taking care" of someone consisted of surrounding them and trying to intimidate them. They aren't very threatening though, even if one of them was the king Norte. It's hard to be scared of a guy with braces. Just like it's hard to look tough when you're drinking through a straw.
I have a peacock feather. :)
6/08/2005
Green hair and pearls.
Got my yearbook. There's a farmer on the cover, looking out at his barn and some hills. Creative, right? Because it's only our mascot and all, who would have thought of putting one on our cover?
Susan wasn't reserved to be the first to sign it this year. It feels weird. I miss having a best friend, especially having a best friend who happened to be your neighbor, along with her sister and another pair of sisters who got along great with you and your sister. We were so damn close. It makes me miss eighth grade. I remember riding to school everyday in my mom's minivan, the six of us filled it. We'd blast The K.G.B. or Dexter Danger, talk about the concert coming up that weekend, embarrass my mom by bouncing the van around at stop-lights.
Then came highschool. I could tell after just a few weeks that things were changing, permanently. Actually, I could tell even at orientation, before the whole thing started. It felt a little different.
It's only been 2 years, and everything is different.
But it's okay now, I guess. I just really miss having that person who'd always go with you, the one who'd meet you after every class, the one who'd fill a whole page in your yearbook. This year Susan barely filled a corner.
Until I find another person who I can be that close to, I'll keep myself occupied with all my little dorky things.
And now I'll go to bed excited about getting away from the place that's constantly reminding me how much people change.
6 more days of class.

Options for my Summer:
+ Be lazy and not do anything specific.
+ Volunteer at the Little Theatre (aka Douglas Morrison Theatre) around the corner from me.
+ Be an "intern" at the Castro Valley Forum. This may not be an option due to age and the 3 month commitment they're asking for.
+ Apply for a job at Thrift Town, maybe some other places, and get some money.
A few things I've decided on already:
+ Make things, for myself and friends.
+ Send at least one package to each person who gives me their address.
+ Sleep, a lot.
+ Read a bunch of books.
+ Arrange my room better. At the moment I have two beds (I don't share a room), an unused (antique?) cedar chest, and a bookcase in front of a cabinet/dresser. Not the most logical set up.
+ Improve my not-very-existent artsy skills (painting, drawing, photography, etc.).
Oh, I updated the hair dye. It's blue-er, and brighter.

Today was another good day.
And my weekend was productive.
Today when I got home I saw an envelope with my name on it. My mom said she found it in the glove compartment. I opened it and found a Mr. Potato Head birthday card from my aunt and uncle with $30 in it. The card threw me off, I thought it was really old or something. But it was in the car we got this year, so it was my most recent birthday. I guess they gave it to my parents late and someone forgot about it. It was a nice surprise.
And my dad fixed the overhead light in my room. I can see again! My lamp had been too dim to be very useful, but too bright to be considered a night light or reading lamp. Now I have a brand new fixture and everything. It was scary watching him take it apart. The wiring in this house is pretty bad. I'm sure the only reason the place hasn't burned down yet is because it all runs on one fuse and there isn't enough power to start a fire. And there's a crescent of pink ceiling around it because the new one is smaller. I just stood on my bed to get a better look at the layers of paint. I think every room in this house has been pink at one point, and some form of turquoise. Even the outside had a layer of turquoise. That's what you get with a 60+ year old house. Even if my room was a later addition. Have I mentioned there's no drywall to be found in my room? It's all particle board. I have trouble keeping thumbtacks in because the hole gets loose if I try to put it back. I bet the only thing keeping the walls up is the almost 1/4 inch thick layer of paint coats.
I think I'm going to go look for the blow dryer so I can heat-set my shoes so I can wear them tomorrow.

Summer plans
I want everyone to email me their address so I can mail them things this summer.
That is, if you don't mind me having your address. I promise I won't stalk you or send bombs or something.
jenna.howes (at) gmail.com
I'll write letters and send crafty things and postcards and stickers and neat stuff.
Gosh, my speakers are crappy now.
Für Carolyn.
Meine Carolyn;
Alles Gute zum Geburtstag!!
Für dich:
Bratwurst.
Und ein Deutsch Graben.
Und die Hitler Jugend.
Er schauen gut, recht?
Ich wünsche alle das beste für dich.
At least act like you mean it.
New header thing.
Last night I made a different one.
Here:
But then I uploaded some pictures and came up with this one.
Doesn't it look like an impressionist painting? I <3 photoshop.
Today I went thrifting and then painted things. I painted little wooden hearts that will soon be pins, then I did the base coat on my shoes. You will see them soon. they're the most annoying color green, I love it.
I got the soundtrack for Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. But I left it in the car, so I haven't listened to anything on it except for Kiss. I also got yet another scarf. That makes 5 thrifted scarves that I can see at the moment.
Let's see how many other thrifted things I can count.
26 things. That's not including my ties.
And it's just what I can see from my bed.
Highlights:
+ My super-cool blue sunglasses
+ My Kingkow bag
+ Cherry print fabric
+ Wallflowers cd
+ New-to-me black briefcase
What I'll do with my new briefcase, I do not know, but I'll come up with something.
I finally got myself more binder paper, college rule of course.
There's something else to add to my hate list, wide ruled paper. Ew.

Trench warfare!
I had a good day, so I'm going to make a list of some of the things I hate.
Don't see the connection? Well, I didn't encounter any of these things today, hence the good part.
+Lettuce
+Stucco
+Eucalyptus trees
+Feeling lonely
+Losing things
+Being yelled at
+Getting hurt
There's more, but I don't want to make myself all angsty.
This would have been more appropriate yesterday, as I was wearing my Sublime shirt, but:
It's summertime, and the living's easy.

Smoggy sunset
Either there's a new one, or the spider is back. He's probably angry and sticky.
He's in the middle of the ceiling. Even if you could reach him with a shoe, chances are that he'd fall on the floor or your stuff. He'd most likely still be alive. Then he'd be near your feet and bed. And you don't want that. At least you've learned your lesson about spray adhesive.
He's not doing anything, leave him alone.

Someone got to my site by searching for "stupid shit."
I hope they didn't find what they were looking for.
Someone else found it with New Found Glory lyrics.
And someone else found it with "pureplayer on myspace."
That was just today.

You'd kill for this.
There's a large spider crawling around your ceiling and wall, it stops above your closet door, which is slightly ajar due to the coats hanging from it. You pick up a shoe to smash the spider, thinking that even if you miss he'll just fall into the unused closet. Then you notice the can of spray adhesive sitting on the shelf next to you. You figure that if it's harmful to humans it would harmful to evil brown spiders, too, and you have a better chance of spraying it than of smashing it. You pick it up and shake it, then aim and spray. The spider falls into the mass of jackets hanging on the hook. You jump back a step and yelp a little in surprise. You hadn't anticipated the spider falling out two inches from the wall. You hit the coats a few times, thinking the spider might climb out so you can have round two, but nothing happens. Too afraid to actually take the coats down and look for it, you go back to your homework and laptop.
Next time go with the shoe. Blunt force is more reliable than poison.
And stop pulling on your laptop, the speaker cord is caught on the chair leg and you'll pull it out.
Gonna call all the shots, all the no's and the not's, because I wanna.
I think I have put together the most perfect playlist for my mood.
Which is borderline-hyper.
Yes, it is a mood. It's energetic, but not quite enough to be officially hyper.
I found out that the school's "biggest norte" is in my shop class, in fact he's the "king norte."
Wow.
Should norte be capitalized?
The Castro Valley Forum made a few more mistakes today.
Silly people.
